Nathan Emerson, MA, LPC

Please read over my website to get a sense of what our work together might be like. If you like what you see, then I may be the best therapist to meet your needs. I have been in mixed practice settings for a decade and have worked with children, adults, and the elderly.

I have a strong personal commitment to self-reflection and self-inquiry. I found my way to psychotherapy through an initial interest in spirituality, environmental and social justice, Eastern philosophy and psychology. I was interested in figuring out life and how I could grow, how to better understand myself, the world and my relationships. Big influences in my approach to psychotherapy are Buddhist psychology, existentialism, gestalt, psychodynamics and mindfulness. As a therapist, I hold a non-judgemental attitude toward you and what you are going through.

My Commitment

As a white cis, hetero man, I believe it is my duty to help deconstruct the systems and ideologies of oppression that keep people who don’t look or love like me disempowered and marginalized. I stand as an ally to women, BIPOC, LGBTQIA individuals, and people with disabilities. I endeavor to continually educate myself in my role as a cis, hetero male ally in how to think and act in ways that benefit those who don’t look or love like me.

I celebrate and honor all sexual expressions and all gender identities. It is my pleasure and honor to work with people of any gender identity and any sexual orientation. It is also my pleasure and honor to work with BIPOC individuals and people with disabilities. I recognize that many forms of privilege and oppression are very real forces in society and culture and that they have real and often negative impacts on the mental health and emotional wellbeing of those who do not belong to the dominant groups or social locations. In our work together, I will do my utmost to support you.
